Cold Steel 59KSET Kitchen Classics Review

I have been a fan of cold steel knives for a long time. I have been carrying the same recon 1 knife for the last 10 years. I got married 5 years ago and wanted my wife to have a good set of kitchen cutlery. I have found the cold steel knives to be very good kitchen knives. They hold an edge well and maintaining the edge is a fairly simple chore. Now for the bad part. It pains me to say this but Cold Steel could have a 5 star product here but for one thing. The kraton handles do not stand up to extended use. The paring knife handle has started to crumble as well as the handle on the chef's knife. Cold Steel has good steel. But they really need to rethink their use of rubber on the handles. I give this set of knives 3 stars because the steel is good and easily maintainable. But good steel with a bad handle is a real disappointment. I have carefully scraped the rubber off the handles and exposed a hard plastic handle underneath. The thickness is much smaller now and the handles are still useful. Spending your hard earned dollars for a set of knives that should last a lifetime, just to have them last a few years is a real bummer. I am still a Cold Steel fan, just not a fan of this particular item. I am currently thinking of replacing the Cold Steel kitchen classic set with Henckles or maybe Boker.
