I got this trash can to use in my kitchen, and overall, we are really liking it.First things first -- this requires 6 C size batteries (not included) that are said to last about a year. I was surprised to find that we did have C batteries around, and it was fairly simple to get them installed.
The trashcan comes with a package of 3 specially designed trash bags (simplehuman Custom Fit Trash Can Liner M, 45 Liters / 12 Gallons, 50-Count), so we started by using one of those. It does fit the can nicely, and was fairly straightforward to tuck into the cover so that the bag doesn't show from the outside. However, when we replaced that bag, we used a standard tall kitchen trash bag, and that seems to work nearly as well. It was also easy enough for my 8 year old to tuck just right so that it fits securely yet isn't visible from the outside. (My 6 year old can't quite do it though... so if she changes the bag, it does stick out.)
Using the regular kitchen trash bags (we've used three now) has worked just fine when they are full, too. I wasn't sure initially, as it looks like the bags don't quite fit the can.
We have the trash can sitting out, and the opening mechanism appears to work well. I love that it senses if you are continuing to work above the can, and it doesn't shut on you. I do have the tendency to cause it to open when I walk by though. My kids don't... I think they are generally moving just fast enough to not trigger the sensor.
We like this. It is functional, attractive, and for us, it is really nice to have a kitchen trash can with a lid.
